A Random Friday Poll: Your Favorite Supreme Court Justice

This is NOT an official ATL contest. We won't offer any commentary on the candidates, to keep the proceedings objective. This is simply a random Friday poll that we're conducting for our own curiosity.

Readers of this site are generally interested in, and highly knowledgeable about, the United States Supreme Court. Many of you might be called "legal nerds" or "judicial groupies" (both of which we view as badges of honor).

So while we have you all here, we thought we'd ask:

supreme court 2006.jpg

Who is your favorite U.S. Supreme Court justice?
Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.
Justice John Paul Stevens
Justice Antonin Scalia
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy
Justice David H. Souter
Justice Clarence Thomas
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Justice Stephen G. Breyer
Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr.

Free polls from Pollhost.com

We know that such online polls have been conducted previously. See, e.g., here. And we have seen articles in which legal experts are asked to name their favorite member of the SCOTUS. See, e.g., here.

But we haven't seen such polls or articles for the Court as currently constituted, i.e., after the appointements of Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito. So we thought we'd run such a poll and see what results we get.

Please cast your vote, so this tally will be as accurate a representation of ATL reader opinion as possible. Thanks!

Suggestion -- when you add pictures, make sure it works in the Firefox browser too. As it is, it's almost impossible to find Scalia in there!

It works for me in Firefox -- try "refreshing" your browser.

Kennedy is doing a lot better than I would have imagined.

Nice try Lat but transparent -- you use the poll and the results to try to get a personal response from one of the Justices Won't work though. Unlike Caminker and co. they see through this kind of stunt from a mile off.

Looks like seniority rules: JGR, JPS, and AS are in the lead right now.

Veiled: Wow, you've got quite the active imagination. It hardly requires the existence of a "hidden agenda" to pose questions the readership will be interested in answering. Occam's razor, dude.

Dylan: Now that you mention it, I'm really intrigued by the thought of what kind of people are choosing Kennedy, and why. I think polls like this would be more fun if we could include demographic information (sex, age, political party, sexual orientation, etc.) so you could generate interesting cocktail party factlets like "young straight women 18-29 of all political affiliations overwhelmingly chose Justice X, while gay Republican men 34-49 were evenly divided between Justice Y and Justice Z". Heh. Just a thought!
