This Is Just Plain Depressing
Dewey Ballantine partners, have you no sense of decency? If your associates are going to act in completely undignified fashion, can't you at least give them dignified surroundings in which to do so?
No amount of tinsel and mistletoe can disguise this basic truth: making out with a paralegal in the cafeteria is beyond humiliating.

Davis Polk had its holiday party in the cafeteria last year. Yeah, that, um, rocked.
My former firm had a strict "no spouses/no plus-ones" at the holiday party (even though spouses and significant others were welcome at all other firm events).
The official reason was to keep the party from getting too big (fire hazards, etc.).
The unofficial reason: to allow drunken hook-ups to happen between lawyers and paralegals.
