Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell: Midday Open Thread
We have a lunch to attend, so we'll be gone for a little while. We've arranged for items to be posted in our absence, though, so please visit early and often.
While we're gone, please feel free to share your thoughts on Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell, in the comments. We've been finding your comments highly informative and entertaining.
We especially welcome comments about Sullivan & Cromwell partner Alexandra Korry (at right). If the allegations about her from the Charney Complaint and ATL reader comments are even halfway true, we have the HUGEST CRUSH...
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Later!
Alexandra D. Korry [Sullivan & Cromwell]

Is she on the Board of the Dalton School or not? Anyone know? Asking the school proved fruitless. Anyone? Anyone?

Dominatrix with greasy hair?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:27 PM
This is such a train wreck.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:30 PM
Bueller? Bueller?!
Posted by: Ferris | January 19, 2007 12:31 PM
I've really had enough of this bullshit. The judge needs to sanction Charney for the despicable way in which he's handled his frivolous lawsuit.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 12:40 PM
Why the excess vitriol suddenly becasue Alexandra Korry is up here on the Board? I don't get it. Why the obcesity NOW?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:42 PM
Poor woman, my ass. She must pull down $3 million a year or more. She probably has an office bigger than my condo with a view of the Hudson River. I don't think she gives a damn about what is said on here anyway. Poor woman, oh yeah, I feel real sorry for her. Huh.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:44 PM
I think Korry or someeone in her family must be posting on here b/c let's face it, who else would have such violent reactions? I mean, I think she looks kind of homely and all that but she shouldn't be attacked. Still - I would not go all mental in her defense like we are seeing in some of these posts.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:44 PM
I'm sure all that was handed to her. She didn't have to work hard for it. I guarantee you she put up with 50x more harassment than Charney ever did.
The point is YOU'RE HARASSING HER WORST THAN CHARNEY WAS EVER HARASSED. AND YOU'RE DOING IT PUBLICLY. DO YOU KNOW WHAT A HYPOCRITE IS?
I've never seen a more vindictive and frivolous lawsuit in my life.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 12:48 PM
Korry doesn't have time to look at this board, she's out at her usual 3 martini lunch at Le Cirque or something. I, on the other hand, with my idiotic, unemployed clients on contingency who sit on their beat-up couches all day drinking Colt 40 and call me about six times before noon to ask when their settlement check is coming, have plenty of time while I contemplate why I ever went to law school and post to these boards.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:49 PM
To be clear - This is a private person. Unlike Charney she didn't seek the public spotlight. Charney's frivolous lawsuit and vindictive marketing thrust her into the public spotlight.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 12:50 PM
Her dad was a US Ambassador. poor poor gal. She clwed her way up from the gutter, huh?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:51 PM
Whatever. She sure is loathed at S&C though. It's all sad
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:53 PM
This board is closed to all family members and relatives of Korry.

I 2nd that motion made by poster @12:55!
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 12:56 PM
Huh?
Posted by: non-family member | January 19, 2007 12:56 PM
May be Krautheimer (BA SUNY-Binghampton, JD Western New England) had Ivy Envy, and Charney was a good target.
Do you need a 140 LSAT to get into WNE Law?
Posted by: T6410 | January 19, 2007 01:06 PM
And let the Krautheimer harassment begin. He didn't go to Harvard. He's ugly.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 01:08 PM
What would John Foster Dulles said about this law suit?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 01:10 PM
Now let's make fun of John Foster Dulles. mmmm... I don't like the airport they named after him? LOL

I'm a gay lawyer and a fair person. The couple posts with the anti-gay slurs seriously bum me out and I feel a little sad after reading them.
This dispute is between a guy named Aaron and a law firm. Leave gays out of this. "Gays" as a whole are neither the named plaintiff, nor a named defendant, but I note that at least one gay partner is portrayed as an enabler of the discrimination. So, with a gay on both sides of the complaint, I don't see how you can read it and slur "gays."
I sympathize with everyone involved in the complaint. I understand gay readers of the complaint who are hurt and want to lash out at the named wrongdoers, and I understand those who doubt the complaint and feel revulsion toward Charney. But I don't understand the posts that this single complaint justifies being anti-gay.

You can tell just by looking at her that she is a total bitch.
Posted by: David St. Hubbins | January 19, 2007 01:22 PM
Does anyone have Reichen's phone number? He's a real pretty gay.
Posted by: Justin | January 19, 2007 01:38 PM
What about the other associate -- Gera G.
How does this law suit affect him?

Does Korry have PMS 24-7, 365?
What's the deal.
Give specifics of her antics!
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 01:47 PM
this has become an exercise in cruelty. does anyone posting here realize that we are talking about real people with lifetimes spent building careers -- with information based on the venting of a few associates and the unsubstantiated claims of a single person?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 02:05 PM
"Does Korry have PMS 24-7, 365?" That's not sexist.
Hypocrites. Absolute vindictive, libelous, asshole hypocrites.

In summary. People like Charney are why respectable homosexuals can't come out. I'm just sick of it.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 02:12 PM
Sometimes when you career is built on destroying others careers, family life, etc. it comes back to bite you in the ass.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 02:12 PM
To 2:11, now you are blaming Charney for why gays can't come out? Do you realize that it is actually okay to discriminate against gays in the workplace in most states. Charney, fortunately, works in NYC, which actually protects the rights of gay employees. If Charney were alleging harrassment because he was black, would you be saying the same thing?
It sounds like you are self-loating and have your own issues. Deal with them. But if anything, Charney's actions at least have the appearance of trying to help people to come out at the office.
And if you happen to be the same "Anon" who posted at 12:38, I just feel sorry for you. I hope you are not this vitriolic in public, otherwise, you must be a very sad and lonely person. And don't blame your hatred of gay people on this one law suit. It's clear that you are just a bigot waiting for an opportunity to shoot your mouth off. What you don't realize is that the hatred in your posts make your underlying opinions lack any credibility whatsoever.

Please. We have the most vanity of any sociological group out there.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 02:41 PM
anon 2:41 - you are an asian female then, right?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 02:43 PM
BTW I'm not out and I have a lot of issues with mainstream gay culture. I'm sure there are many more gay people like me. Not everyone is flaming.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 02:48 PM
You do realize there is a whole world of difference between "out" and "flaming." I think you are one of the issues that is plaguing gay culture. You're attitude towards homosexuality (i.e., that it is something of which to be ashamed) gives people the idea that it is okay to demean, discriminate, harrass, beat up (I could go on and on, but I hope you get the point).
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 02:54 PM
Oh, and I'm also kind of ugly and went to a crappy law school. That's why I got so prickly when you all made fun of Eric Krautheimer.
Posted by: anon | January 19, 2007 02:59 PM
Here's the diff. bet. making fun of Eric Krautheimer vs. Aaron Charney. If you're a pole smoker, can't do much about that. "Therapy" for gays has a v. low success rate.
But if you're (a) fat, bald, and ugly, and (b) a Sullivan & Cromwell partner, there ARE things you can do. You make millions of $$$ a year. So liposuction, a personal trainer, diet delivery meals, hair replacement surgery, and cosmetic surgery are all things you can afford.

So wrong dude. Just the other day I was walking down Santa Monica Blvd. when a stranger flat out tried to pick me up on the street, in open daylight. He gushed like I was Tom Cruise - who I've been told I look like. It was embarassing.
Look. I'm interested in gay issues. Why else would I have spent about three hours a day the last three days on this board? But you need to admit that Charney's case heavily leans towards being bullshit and hurts the community. The heros at S&C are the 10 or so homosexuals who worked hard and made partner, and the gay associates who couldn't make it, but didn't blame it on their homosexuality.

David Lat asked us to comment on Korry. So we did.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 03:16 PM
This is no worse than what gets said about Korry behind her back. If I were her, I'd rather know what people are saying, so I can deal with it pro-actively.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 03:18 PM
How are things at S&C?
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 04:26 PM
I wonder if ANY work is getting done over there. I bet people are just sitting around and gossiping all day.
Posted by: Anonymous | January 19, 2007 04:33 PM
Of course no work is getting done. We're too busy concocting conspiracy theories about why certain highly-detailed comments to the WSJ law blog were pulled...(these posts were fairly specific in their criticisms of S&C and, in particular certain partners/wannabe underlings...

What are some of the conpiracy theories you have come up with thus far?
