Skaddenfreude: Williams & Connolly Has Not Raised (Yet)

We have spoken to multiple sources at Williams & Connolly in the past half hour. The rumor of good news by voice-mail is not true (unless our sources, from different class years at the firm, were somehow left out of the loop).

We think it's only a matter of time before W&C raises base salaries. Their compensation model is to pay an above-market base salary for D.C., but no year-end bonus.

As of now, though, nothing official has been announced. If you're at Williams & Connolly, and anything changes on this front, please let us know. Thanks.

Original W&C poster here: My friend, an associate at the firm, says he is on some sort of associate's committee, and they have been told that the raises are in the works. My apologies for the misinformation.

Rumor that Strook has matched.

Clifford Chance matched

Where did you get your info about stroock matching?

what is w&C current starting base salaries? do they currently start at 145?

Can we have memos or more confirmation on Strook and Clifford? Also, information regarding whether the raises are just for NY or firmwide are also good to have.

W&C just recently got bumped to 150K. Before the raises last year they were at 140K, to reflect the standard 125K base and 15K bonus. When everyone started bumping to 135K in DC, they initially went to 145K, and now 150K. Sounds like they're going higher.

If Williams and Connolly goes higher, they'll have to go to $160k. Even then, though, remember that because they don't pay a bonus, you wind up making $20k-30k less than at a comparable DC firm.

How high are bonuses in DC? I thought they were around 15k-25k, meaning that, at most, W&C would pay 10k less than a comparable firm with bonus.

If Covington has raised to 145k but pays them a bonus, and W&C pays 150k, W&C is exposing its associates to a potentially substantial differential, is it not?
