More About Docket Review With Shanetta Cutlar

Shanetta Cutlar 2 Shanetta Y Cutlar Shanetta Brown Cutlar DOJ SPL Special Litigation Section Civil Rights Division.jpgLast month we wrote about how Docket Review is conducted over at the Justice Department's Special Litigation Section (SPL). Attorneys who have worked under Shanetta Cutlar, chief of the section, have described Docket Review with her as an excruciating experience.

Since then, we've received some more information about the process. A recent email from a former SPL employee begins:

Many, including myself, are so grateful for your Shanetta Cutlar coverage. Many are able to vent and tell their true stories -- or shall I say nightmares.

Your coverage has been lighthearted in tone. But with all due repect, the unprofessional mental, emotional and physical cruelty inflicted by Shanetta is indeed a FACT. This is a cry for help.

Many staff members, including deputies, have complained of physical illness related to the toxic stressful working environment within the Special Litigation Section. Some SPL staff have complained of severe headaches, viomitting and diarrhea.

Continued commentary, including a behind-the-scenes look at "Docket Review," after the jump.

In our earlier post, Shanetta Y. Cutlar's Docket Review came across as a (highly successful) attempt by SYC to torture certain attorneys who are out of her favor. As our tipster points out, even if Docket Review may LOOK effortless, a lot of hard work goes into inflicting such misery:

Before Docket Reviews, Shanetta has already laid her strategic plan into motion, to grind her unprofessional axe on her next unsuspecting victims (who perhaps did not speak to her on the way to the ladies room). Shanetta will meet with her team of deputies, and directly dictate her personal instructions, BEFORE the actual Docket Reviews take place.

Sad to say, many are targeted for no apparent reason other than the fact that they have landed somehow on Shanetta's hit list.

Our earlier correspondent described Docket Review's unique ability to put "the entire Section... in an uproar -- for days." Our latest emailer agrees:

During Docket Review time, SPL is a sight to see. People are peeping around corners to see who's crying, cursing, or holding back tears as they return back to their office.

After docket reviews, it's a ritual for Shanetta, [Principal Deputy] Tammie [Gregg], and sometimes [Deputy Chief] Judy [Preston] to get together [for a closed-door debriefing session]. They laugh hysterically about the cruel mental treatment they have subjected the hardworking DOJ attorneys to. Sad to say, they take pleasure and delight in staff attorneys' anger, tears, and frustration during Docket Review. Is this Justice?

An interesting digression about relations between Shanetta Cutlar and Judy Prescott, one of her deputies:

Judy Prescott is included [in the debriefings] depending on Shanetta's mood. You see, Shanetta swings back and forth with Judy. Some days they are cool, and the next day she is referred to as "that stinky Judy".

Poor unsuspecting Judy does not know that Shanetta moved her next door to her office to watch and monitor her company. (Other deputies often huddled in Judy's office, to discuss the SPL dragon in secret.) Shanetta stated that the office move would allow her to keep a eye on Judy and monitor her office company during working hours.

Guess what? Shanetta does not know that Judy is not the Shanetta fan she thinks she is...

Is it just us, or is the DOJ sounding very Heathers right now?

More from our source:

Come take a surprise walk through the Special Litigation Section. You will find a quiet and stressed atomosphere, with closed doors. You will most likely find Shanetta in Judy's office, venting and pulling her into her meanspirited web of drama -- Judy, who has no choice but to listen and ACT as if she is on her side.

Of course, it's no secret that [Shanetta's] own Deputy Team walks on eggshells. They realize they must play her cruel games to survive -- and keep a steady paycheck coming. If you don't agree, and laugh at her twisted train of thoughts as she tries to justify her twisted deeds, you are HISTORY.

Let's start a new one, to find out how many lawyers to be would still be willing to accept an offer at SC

Keep the stories coming! As indicated in a previous story, Shanetta is well aware of this website and apparently behind closed doors she is the one crying and getting diarrhea. About time she got a taste of her own medicine.

How sad is it that "another government lawyer" has nothing better to do than to waste time on this web site responding to blogs and making assumptions of what Queen Shanetta might be doing behind closed doors. Are you doing any work? Now let's ask H.R. and the front office who is really wasting the taxpayer's dollars. You should be fired for using the government's work time to engage in unethical behavior. You must be bagged next!!

Truth or dear: I dear all government lawyers to uphold justice and speak truth whenever anyone is being subjected to injustice in any given DOJ agency and not hide the ugly truth that racism is quite prevalent and have ruined the lives of many who were too weak or lacked the resources to seek justice. Then call on Congress and the President to make change to defend all, not only those who possess this sense of entitlement. The late King Jr. once said, "a threat to justice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere."

Hey "Life", did you notice the time stamp on my posting? 9:39PM right?

I was at home, stupid, most government lawyers are home by then and I posted from my home computer, stupid.

As for racism having ruined the lives of so many, that doesn't justify how the power-tripping "Queen Shanetta" treats her staff and runs the section. In fact, the low morale and constant turnover will hamper the division's ability to carry out its mission of fighting for civil rights. You just don't get it do you?

Hey AGL, most hardworking and competent government lawyers are still pounding away at their cases at 9:39p.m from the office. You on the other hand would rather go home early, respond to blogs, and engage in infantile communication. Are you all lawyers or whimps? Pull up your diapers and stop blaming Chief Cutlar for your shortcomings. In fact, what is really hampering the division's ability to carry out its mission is the poor work performance of you and others. Maybe you should spend more time in the office and less time on this website. Do you get it?

No manager should powertrip and abuse the rights of others. However, if you were to subject every powertripping manager at DOJ to the guillotine, there would be no managers left at DOJ.

AGL: You and your colleagues are a disgrace to every government lawyer across the nation. The type of decorum you all have displayed on this website is a testament to your poor characters and why Chief Cutlar manages her section with such firmness. Lawyers are suppose to use the proper channels to resolve problems. Instead, you all have resorted to derelict behavior. The fact is that nowhere in the history of DOJ have lawyers dared to publicly defame the character of a Chief held in such high esteem.

You all have made history: Lawyers who are lower than the ground Chief Cutlar walks on. Show some pride in yourself and do not respond to this blog.

Hey Life,

Did you really need to post the same thing four times? I second what 9:28pm has to say, you are on this blog ALL DAY. Are you a trust fund baby or something such that you have time for this? And I'm not blaming Cutlar for any shortcomings I might have. I don't even work in DOJ. It's just that my first job out of college was at a quasi-government organization where the General Counsel (my boss) was the biggest power-tripping bitch I ever met and it made for a very unpleasant and unproductive workplace. Because this wasn't technically a government agency, she was eventually fired by the board of directors and she deserved what she got. No one should have to endure that kind of b---sh-- at work. It is always counterproductive in the long run anyway. Oh, and by the way, are you related to Thailour Preston by chance?

As for you Embarrassment, as I said, I don't work at DOJ. I know the typical DOJ lawyer works harder and later than most government lawyers. Where I work, its usually cleared out by 7pm. What Ms. Cutlar does is no way to run a workplace - there's big difference between "firmness" and being abusive. No excuse for being abusive.

Let's move on to the comments section on the next story about Ms. Cutlar.

Life since you are so supportive of Mrs. Cutlar why don't you identify yourself. Maybe she will give you an on the spot award.

AGL - Try to express yourself in a more civilized manner than using the word bitch. It sounds like you are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and may need to see a psychiatrist. In the interim back off of Mrs. Cutlar since you do not work for the SPL section.

Anonymous - (go figure) I'll identify myself if you dare to identify yourself.

I am laughing so hard. Life is a freak! Tell your story of the good things and stop personally attacking people for telling their stories about the bad. It appears you are cut from the same cloth as your Queen. Wow, the ad hominen attacks - I'm not sure if Life isn't the Queen herself. Which wouldn't be surprising - I know she has to be itching to tell her side of things or has she?

10:21-Rest assured that Mrs. Cutlar is too dignified to engage in such nonsensical communication on this website. I choose to defend this woman because she works very hard and is a respectable human being. Shanetta simply wants the respect shown to her that all other DOJ managers receive.

Mrs. Cutlar does not need to tell her side. The fact is that she is simply doing her job.

OMG Life, you are BLINDED. How about you telling us that the stories about Shanetta are false, that she never did any of these things? You can't, you wanna know why? Because she has done all this and worse. I'll bet money that this is CC, a man with battered wife syndrome. Simply doing her job? Dishing with deputies and planning attacks on her attorneys? Has she not berated nearly everyone on the staff at one time or another, for no good reason. The only time you should yell at someone is when you are warning them to get out of the way because they are about to be hit by a bus. She is not respectful to ANYONE on her staff, so why should they truly respect her? Oh, they may play the game and worship at the SYC alter, but truly, everyone left there is waiting her out, she can't be a manager forever.
