Brokeback Lawfirm: Five Facts About Gera Grinberg
We previously issued a request for any and all information, however trivial, about Gera Grinberg -- the mysterious Sullivan & Cromwell associate who worked closely with Aaron Charney, plaintiff in Charney v. S&C. We received a few responses.
The tidbits we received are rather insignificant. But considering how secretive Gera Grinberg appears to be -- neither we nor the many MSM reporters on the scene have managed to dig up anything major on him -- we regard these factoids as a minor coup.
The answer to the question "What's Gera Grinberg really like?" is a more closely guarded secret than the identity of Valerie Plame. Okay, bad example; but you get the point. Anyway, here are our five factoids:
1. People who have worked with Gera Grinberg describe him as "a nice guy." Normally this wouldn't be worth mentioning. But considering the high a**hole quotient in S&C's M&A group, it's significant.2. Gera lives in a luxury apartment development in Jersey City’s Hudson River waterfront district -- a relatively easy commute to S&C's downtown offices.
3. Grinberg went to school in Canada -- Kwantlen University College in British Columbia, followed by the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law -- but he was born in Eastern Europe (Ukraine, upon information and belief).
4. Gera is heterosexual, and he has -- or at least he had (we don't know the current status of the relationship) -- a girlfriend. Said girlfriend is also a lawyer; we don't know where she works.
5. As far as we know, Gera Grinberg is still on paid leave from Sullivan & Cromwell -- and apparently remains on the payroll, since he's still on the S&C website.
(Recall that when Aaron Charney was finally fired by S&C, well after he filed his pro se lawsuit, his bio was removed from the firm website faster than Alexandra Korry can hurl a stapler.)
Are these earth-shattering revelations? Hardly. But considering Gera Grinberg's status as International Man of Mystery, we deserve credit for unearthing even these measly scraps.
If you have any more information about Gera Grinberg to add, you know where to reach us. Thanks.

They suck.

I've heard that Gera had teh buttsecks with Aaron Charney.

Ukraine is not weak!
Maybe Gera should go back to Ukraine and start a law firm there with Aaron. I am sure they will get some referral work from S&C.

Disappointing Lat. Report nothing if you have nothing worth reporting. It is better than having to see these BS posts.
Posted by: anon | March 6, 2007 11:37 AM
11:37: Fair enough. But you should know that Lat, like most "commercial" bloggers, has a daily postcount quota.
Unlike people who just blog for fun, people who blog for a living don't have the luxury of posting only when they have something brilliant or hilarious to say.
In short, you will inevitably get some "filler" (e.g., Musical Chairs posts) mixed in with better stuff.

Gera G. is a class A a$$hole to work with. He has backstabbed many associates at S&C. I don't know where you get fact number (1) from, but i am willing to bet it isn't anyone that you can confirm to have worked with him.
Allow me to shed a little light on this. Gera G. has been engaged in activities that would be contrary to many law firms employment policies for years, and S&C has finally caught on - that's why he is on paid leave. His paid leave has very little to do with A. Charney. He carries his own baggage.

Not only GG is not an asshole to work with, but he himself gained notoriety at S&C by COMPLAINING ABOUT AN ASSHOLE SENIOR ASSOCIATE (and asshole that senior associate it was) which purportedly played into the firm's decision to not make the said asshole partner. stop spreading rumors about GG. he is a nice guy who got caught in a middle of really bid situation. I hope he works it out.

is that a new picture of krautheimer on S&C's website?

As I posted in the other thread - Gera was (and was known to be) a bit of a dick at law school. Maybe he's a saint compared to the rest of the a**holes at S&C - hardly an endorsement of that firm.
[The prestigous] Steven Spielvogel was, for a time, a prof or adjunct-prof at UBC Law, which is where Grinberg met him. Spielvogel attracted something of a coterie of corporate-wannabe suck-ups - I think Grinberg was in this group, but wouldn't swear to it.
Kwantlen is a community college - probably unable to grant degrees until the 1990s - to get into Law School from there is actually pretty impressive.

That's right. Gera may have been a dick at Canadian law school, but he was a saint in comparison to some S&C characters.

I would have bet any amount of money that Kwantlen would never appear on an S&C bio page. It is Vancouver's worst community college that doesn't offer classes in locksmithing. They used to run bus ads in the 90s that said "Get Kwalified at Kwantlen" until they were wisely pulled.
Posted by: another irrelevant canadian | March 6, 2007 01:44 PM
and you assume they bother to evaluate canadian schools? For all the S&C people who put it on the website knew Kwantlen could be a prestigious boarding school named after the third prime minister.

is that a dig at the canadian education system, a relevant american? McGill was good enough for you and your brother. You should show more gratitude to canadian taxpayers.

Arthur Kwantlen was a fine Prime Minister. He was reponsible for universal dental care coverage.

Jay B. Kesten of Seyfarth Shaw, Brooke Jamison of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg, and Amandeep Sandhu of Lang Michener were Gera Grinberg’s teammates on U. British Columbia’s Corporate/Securities Moot Court Team. Lat, follow up with them.

12:55, that's the same pic of Krautheimer on S&C's website as was there before the ABC lawsuit.

For #2 did someone look in a phone book for it? Hardly the type of info someone would pass along.
Chip on the shoulder/esteem issue. Ok after you deal with him for a bit.

#4- Charney is heterosexual. He has, or at least he had, a girlfriend.
Posted by: Anonymous | March 6, 2007 11:42 PM
With the distinction being that Grinberg never came out, 11:42, like Charney did.
