Brokeback Lawfirm: Highlights from the Amended Complaint
The indefatigable Lavi Soloway has posted an excellent summary of the juiciest parts of the amended complaint just filed by Aaron Charney.
The best stuff is in the lede (all caps in the original; emphases added):
THE AMENDED COMPLAINT INCLUDES ALLEGATION THAT ON JANUARY 31, FORMER S&C ASSOCIATE, EDWARD GALLION, WHO HAD BEEN HIRED TO REPRESENT ASSOCIATE GERA GRINBERG, REVEALED TO CHARNEY AND GRINBERG THAT HE, GALLION, IS "A HOMOSEXUAL."GALLION IS ALLEGED TO HAVE DISCLOSED THIS FACT IN GALLION'S APARTMENT (???) AS GRINBERG, CHARNEY AND GALLION AWAITED THE ARRIVAL OF GALLION'S PARTNER, STEVEN SPIELVOGEL, WHO WAS TO ACCOMPANY THEM TO A SCHEDULED SETTLEMENT CONFERENCE. ALLEGEDLY, GALLION ALSO TOLD THEM THAT HE HAD NOT MADE PARTNER AT S&C BECAUSE OF ANTI-GAY DISCRIMINATION AND THAT WHILE HE WAS AN ASSOCIATE THERE HE HAD BEEN NICKNAMED "THE FAGGOT" BY A PARTNER AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER

At first i though the story was interesting, but didn't necessarily have the makings of a movie. This makes Philadelphia look like child's play. S&C is going to get creamed in fall recruiting.

don't settle charney! we need a full trial. we need cameras in the courtroom
Posted by: Anonymous | May 22, 2007 12:04 PM
And to think, he's been trying to tell us all these months: Gallion OUT.
Posted by: anonymous | May 22, 2007 12:14 PM
12:14: LMAO! Best comment of the morning so far.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 22, 2007 12:19 PM
12:14 - that was brilliant
Posted by: anonymous | May 22, 2007 12:34 PM
Good stuff? Not sure whether I'd classify it that way...
Posted by: Legally chocolate | May 22, 2007 12:54 PM
I hope Charney's not making this stuff up. Because if he is, he deserves far worse than he's likely to get
Posted by: Anonymous | May 22, 2007 12:59 PM
Wait, Gallian is homosexual, was demeaned with gay slurs by a partner at S&C, and was denied partnership because he was gay... yet he "conspired" with S&C against Charney? Doesn't seem to quite add up.
Posted by: Let the Eagle Soar | May 22, 2007 01:01 PM
No way do I think this stuff is made up.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 22, 2007 01:13 PM
1:01 - maybe Gallion was saying all that stuff to try and gain Charney's trust.

I think S&C should have settled earlier cause I don't see now how this can end well for them. Unless they go to trial and show that Charney's complaint is without a shred of merit a lot of people are going to suspect S&C is a place to steer clear of. That means law students, other lawyers, and clients are all going to want to have less to do with S&C as a result of all this. Even if Charney's complaint is completely without merit it could hurt S&C: case in point is Duke where applications were done this year for the undergrads even though it's long been relatively clear that the prosecution never had a case.

why is it that S&C hired criminal defense lawyer to represent them?

Posted by: No L | May 22, 2007 02:45 PM
This is like a bad episode of law and order. The way the story will end is that it will turn out that everyone involved is gay, and the behavior of nearly all involved (except Charney) can be explained by an attempt to remain in the closet.
Even the metal detector in the courthouse is gay.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 22, 2007 04:18 PM
No L asks a good question. Why is it that S&C hired a criminal defense lawyer to represent them way back when... especially as they had Zach Fasman on board already. Made no sense at the time but now that we've seen Charney's new Complaint, it kind of all makes a lot of sense. It's scary

so let me get this straight:
Gallion: now gay
Charney: still suing
Korry: still maniac abusive psycho

Yes. S&C's "Freeing" Korry is the only humane thing to do. FOR THE ASSOCIATES UNDER HER WHO HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ABUSE BEYOND THE PALE, THE PARTNERS WHO HAVE TO DEAL WITH HER STENCH, AND THE OTHER SIDE WHOS LAUGHS AT HER.

The haiku at 8:40 has a seasonal reference, so it is probably the best (or at least most traditional) haiku.
