Summer Associate of the Day: Victoria Bechtold Kush
Like ATL's most recent Summer Associate of the Day, our latest honoree is also a hottie. And that's not a matter of opinion; it's a certified fact.
On the heels of yesterday's Miss Connecticut International turned litigatrix, we learn of another beauty pageant winner who has turned in her tiara for a stack of BNA looseleafs. From a tipster:
This summer, the Miami office of Shook, Hardy, & Bacon is graced by the presence of a former Miss Pennsylvania, Victoria Bechtold Kush. She is currently a law student at Florida International University School of Law.Check out her website. Needless to say, she is a bit of a distraction!
Very impressive. And Victoria Kush isn't just beautiful; she's also brainy. From her bio:
Victoria pursued her undergraduate degree at Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, PA, where she obtained a B.S. degree in Business - Information Technology. As a member of the Honors College, she graduated as Valedictorian after completing her degree in 3 years while maintaining a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
WOW. So we'll ask what you're all thinking, but are too polite to say out loud: What the heck is she doing at FIU Law?
More after the jump.
Finishing college in three years, with a perfect GPA? Kush's academic credentials are impeccable. And top law schools welcome beauty queens with open arms. For example, Erika Harold, Miss America 2003 (and Miss Illinois 2002 before that), went to Harvard Law School.
Now, we intend no disrespect to FIU, which is a fine law school. As noted here, "in the February 2007 Bar, FIU Law ranked the highest with a 94% passing rate, beating the top universities in the state, including the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Miami."
But we do find Kush's choice a little surprising. FIU is a brand-spanking-new law school, which didn't receive full ABA accreditation until December 2006. Shouldn't a beauty queen be more beholden to prestige?

Your standards are ridiculous. An entire article for this chick? "Very impressive," "beautiful?" This chick is totally broke. Perhaps a life in law has dulled your sense of hotness.
Posted by: Not Hot | May 25, 2007 10:24 AM
The hottie hating on this board is getting ridiculous. 10:24, she was a former Miss Pennsylvania, for crying out loud.

also, business information technology???

FIU has a law school?
I already have my JD, but do they offer an LLM program so I can have the delusion I might get to speak to this babe?

10:34 -- Elle Woods got into Harvard Law after majoring in fashion merchandising!
(Oh wait, that was a movie...)

Perhaps more disturbing than the FIU Law thing is the fact that such a hottie is married to such a dorky-looking guy. I mean, it gives hope to the rest of us, but come on... what a tool! Here's hoping he's at least loaded...

Did anyone else ask themselves why Lat would be focusing on a second 40 year-old Summer Associate before they clicked on her website? Seriously - this woman is 23 going on 40.
Maybe it's the ridiculous amount of makeup caked on her face that constant "I have to look like a beauty queen" face that makes her look so much older.
She doesn't do too much for me.
Posted by: Anonymous | May 25, 2007 10:49 AM
I agree w/ 10:49 - she's got a serious case of the old face heading her way...

Whatever "Not Hot," I'd bang her, and so would you.

This chick is scary. She has the same expression on her face, with the same make-up, smile etc…, in every single one of the pictures on her website. She has the exact same perfect smile with full make-up whether she's on a "Bike tour of Tuscany with Jason" or at a Miss Pennsylvania event or at her wedding. She is spooky.

You know, five minutes of surfing her site will tell you:
- Her hubby -- her high school sweetheart -- is a saxophonist who is getting his doctorate in music at Frost in Miami
- She wore the Black Orlov diamond at her wedding, in its first public appearance "in decades"
- She has a black belt in Tang Soo Do karate
- she recently had "the honor to sing before the Honorable Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, during a dedication ceremony for FIU’s new state-of-the-art law building, Diaz-Ballart Hall"
C'mon Lat, there's tons of material here! Where's the reporting?
Posted by: the five-minute reporter | May 25, 2007 11:08 AM
11:08, that is all typical random crap for a beauty pageant winner. My guess is that Lat noticed it all and didn't deem it post-worthy.
The only thing in your litany possibly worth mentioning is the item about her husband studying music at Forst (because it explains her presence in Miami -- but doesn't explain why she went to FIU over many other Miami-area schools).

I am shocked to find Lat, in assessing her academic credentials as "impeccable", has overlooked the fact that Duquesne University is given a "third tier" ranking in "national universities" by USNWR.
A good school I do not doubt it is, but it may explin her choice of FIU law...

her husband's hot!! but alas since he's married don't think he'd swing my way.

11:04 - You're probably one of the same people complaining that Monica Gooodling looks different in every photograph. Which is it? Same or different?

Her "law school" voted her "best oralist!" Lucky Jason.

Okay, she's lovely, but the first page on her website is not the most flattering - concealer, anyone? More importantly, those are among the must unflattering bridesmaids dresses I have ever seen, and the color sucks. Her wedding looks much more 1992 than 2005.
Posted by: anon | May 25, 2007 11:45 AM
Why FIU? I bet she's going for free--probably including a stipend for expenses, too. $35000/year (or so) is a big incentive to pick FIU over, say, UMiami, especially if your husband is a likely-to-be perpetually-underpaid music student.
Posted by: Why FIU? | May 25, 2007 11:46 AM
Isn't it a faux pas to call it a "juris doctorate?" I've always been told that's wrong.
Posted by: Dr. Victoria? | May 25, 2007 11:49 AM
She has great teeth.

Dear 11:45:
Meow much?
Posted by: Anonymous | May 25, 2007 12:08 PM
Umm, FIU is NOT $35K/year. It's a Florida public school...which means it's like $10K/year. Quite frankly, I'm from Florida, went to the University of Florida, obtained a J.D. (out of FL), and I didn't know that FIU had a law school...which means, it's terrible.
And yes, she totally has the "old face" creeping up. She's skinny and tall, but she could be 43 with 3 kids and I wouldn't bat an eye. I also picture her going to church a lot...

Why does it not surprise me that this girl is summering at Shook? They are well known for putting hotties (both women and men) in the courtroom. Well, that and for their general disregard for ethics in defending Big Tobacco.
Posted by: ltg | May 25, 2007 12:46 PM
Don't get me wrong; she's very pretty. But -- if she's really only 23, then either pageant life is WAY more demanding than law firm life (chortle), or she needs to switch her foundation. Seriously, she looks older than me, and I've been working at BigLaw for two years. I've got eye circles and everything.
Again, not saying she's ugly -- but she looks a lot older than 23.

You need to layoff the Meow Mix.
Catty!!!!!

1:56, you disagree?
Posted by: 1:43 | May 25, 2007 02:03 PM
I can only say that she looks youthful an and is above average in physical apperance (albeit with some obvious cosmetic "advantages", e.g. capped teeth).
My thing is that 1. I think the pageant-LS combo is inherently bizarre and 2. the "pageant" concept in this day and age is independently bizarre; and 3. her website/publicity/self promotion is a grotesque self parody.
But I would not dane to micro-criticize her completion, lip size, or other physical attributes, or whether she is "aging well". (So far, she is holding up.)
That said, as I posted earlier, she has good teeth.
To put my response in context, I am a man, over the age of 35, married to same aged and very bright woman, who is quite beautiful (and frankly looks al lot "younger").
But the point is, she still looks pretty good, way above average, but the pageant thing--not to mention the particular packaging--is less than flattering.
I gues the reason why I posted in response to you is that I think beauty and "youthfulness" is so rare and fleeting that while noted, it is not really an ethical basis for criticism. And (second) the real issue here is the anachronistic concept of a professional woman/pageant queen, which I find bizarre at this point in time.
Which is the inherent "absurdity" of the situation that (in part) motive Lat to post this item to begin with.

this chick's face is busted. notice how her left eye is misshapen and significantly larger than her right eye.

Can we get some MALE SA hotties? I'm totally loving this new trend about town of men-as-very-sexy-sex-objects.

I know her and she is much prettier in person!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | June 3, 2007 06:53 PM
I agree with 6:53. She is very pretty in person. She also has a great body and voice. She sings at my church and many people are getting her to sing at their events. She is friendly and liked by all.

This girl is not only a beauty, but from her bio seems to be tops in everything she does--"College-in-High School" student, HS and college valedictorian, "Pennsylvania's Outstanding Young Woman," lead role in musical, title role in ballet, black belt, leadership, leadership, leadership.... Shook is lucky to get her!

FIU is a very average law school, dont let the bar passage rate fool you at all, i believe they obtained that score when their initial crop of students took the bar and while it was 94% it was also a very small sample
Posted by: anon | July 30, 2007 01:52 AM
You guys need to all grow up and get back to work. Victoria is an amazing person, and I hope that you will have a chance to meet her and see what she is truly about. Her make-up is not "caked on." Her teeth are real, not capped. Her husband is a very talented saxophone player, who is just as determined as she is to make it in this narrow minded world. Victoria has always been more mature than people her age, and from the above posts, more mature than most of the people who choose to comment on her. You may assume all that you want about her, but when you assume, you only make an ass out of yourself.

FIU law school has the lowest acceptance rate in the state. They are new and are really trying to bring in good students. the median lsat is roughly 155 compared to 159 for UF, but FIU is much more selective. 120 full time v. 400 full time?
Posted by: FIU | September 12, 2007 04:17 AM
FIU's Law School has quickly become pretty prestigious. It's scored the highest on the bar for the last 3 years in the entire state of Florida, it's ranked 3rd Tier under USNWR. It has the second lowest acceptance rate in Florida and has a great set of professors. So, all you FIU bashers, please get your facts straight. FIU's Law School is really good.
