ATL's New Pen Pal: Oona O'Connell, Lawyer Turned Playboy Model (Part 1)

WOW. Wouldn't sitting next to this hottie in Torts class be just a wee bit distracting?

We rarely hear from people about whom we've written. This is generally a good thing.

But every now and then, one of them drops us a line. And sometimes they're none too pleased. Like Oona O'Connell, the superhottie lawyer who posed for Playboy, as discussed back in this post.

You can read Ms. O'Connell's email, which we reprint with her permission, after the jump.

So here's what Oona O'Connell wrote to us:

Mr. Lat:

It must be very fulfilling to run a website that is based on malicious gossips pretending that they know things about subjects they have no familiarity with whatsoever. If you don't have anything nice to say, why say anything at all?

It's not my fault that I am enjoying my life, pursuing my dreams, and doing what fulfills me and makes me happy, instead of stupidly conforming with everybody else's idea of what is 'normal', and this makes other people uncomfortable. I think unconventionality is wonderful. And law school was the most close-minded place I have ever been.

I would be a terrible lawyer because I have no passion for the law and do NOT like the legal profession, not because I posed for Playboy. And btw, Oona O'Connell is my given name. It was the name my parents chose for me and I found it very hurtful to hear it described by your ignorant 'tipster' as coming from a 'porn-name generator'.

Your blog purports to be about the 'profession's most colorful personalities'. I guess I am colorful, by legal standards anyway, but you don't have to be so mean and judgmental about it.

Sincerely,
Oona O'Connell

But this story has a happy ending, in which we end up as friends. We'll bring you the balance of our epistolary exchange in subsequent posts.

women have been posing for playboy for about as long as they have been lawyers. which is more "conventional?"

"I would be a terrible lawyer because I have no passion for the law and do NOT like the legal profession"

Real nice of this bi*ch to take a seat in a law school class away from someone who really wanted to be there.

Lots of people go to law school and THEN discover they "have no passion for the law and do NOT like the legal profession."

I doubt that Oona O'Connell went in KNOWING she didn't want to practice. She probably just thought (like so many other people) that it's a great degree to have, it would keep her options open, bla bla bla.

She's feisty. I like her even more now. I'm attracted to her, uh, mind.

6:38: Is the University of Miami really a seat that you even wanted much less had a hard time securing?

I figured Oona wasn't a porn star name... those names generally are supposed to be appealing.

Her name's more like my response when I see her photo: "Ooh. Nah."

Is that Ann Coulter?

6:54, you need a new prescription. This woman is seriously hot. She posed in Playboy for chrissakes. Look at the pics in the earlier ATL link.

You might think someone who poses for playboy, and went to law school, might have thicker skin.

And apparently you'd be wrong.

Either way, those shoes are unfortunate.

am I the only one who thinks she looks like Morgan Fairchild?

You go girl!

She wouldn't be a good lawyer because, judging by the quality of that note to Lat, she is not very intelligent. Putting aside the rather obvious grammatical errors contained therein, she sounded more like a third-grader spewing insults than someone cogently writing.

Go show your boobs, moron.

Nice countach!

And 9:30 pm, jealousy is so unbecoming.

Lat, please make quick with the alleged reconciliatory remarks. She seems to have strong and resolute convictions and I'd love to see what sort of silver-tongued mastery you displayed in wooing her favor.

Say what you will about her ESL training, those are some nice ta tas.

Second tier law schools are nice, but third tier are even better. I went to a recruiting event for a third tier law school a couple of weeks ago. There were at least ten women in the 2L class who were all significantly hotter than the hottest woman I saw in all three years at my tier one law school.

I'm sorry, but she's bashing Lat, it seems to me that leaving Wachtell and the US Attorneys office to start a blog exposing these people is a lot more "unconventional" than taking your clothes of for money. Hell, I know a ton of reasonably hot chicks that take their clothes off just to ride in my car ...

23 Posted by anon | Permalink Friday, June 29, 2007 9:30 AM

7:37 -- she is NOT hot. She looks like a man. I dont want to see her Playboy spread because I'm afraid of what I would see between her legs. But hey, if that's what you're into . . .

It's a good thing that she put "not" in caps, or I would've thought that she was headed for a SCOTUS clerkship. Didn't Roberts use "btw" in one of the footnotes in the Bong Hits 4 Jesus opinion?

If you're going to voluntarily thrust yourself into the spotlight by taking off all of your clothes and posing in sexually suggestive ways that you wouldn't want your father looking at, I would suggest that you waived your right to protest criticism. You made your bed, sweetheart...

So get dressed and use your brain instead of your body.
