Brokeback Lawfirm: S&C Adds Fabulous Litigatrix to Charney Team

Sharon Nelles Sharon L Nelles Sullivan Cromwell Abovethelaw Above the Law legal blog.jpgIf you're looking for the latest scoop on Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell, there's another site to check out in addition to the usual suspects. Please extend a warm welcome to the newest Charneyblogger: Keeping Up With Jonas!

While we were away last week, Jonas reported on a fabulous new addition to the S&C legal team:

Sullivan and Cromwell partner Sharon L. Nelles filed a notice of appearance yesterday in the Aaron Charney v. Sullivan and Cromwell case.

Do we overuse the term "fabulous" around here? Oh maybe. But Sharon Nelles has been certified as "fabulous," by the mainstream media:

Perhaps most important point about this development, Ms. Nelles was selected by The American Lawyer as one of "The Young Litigators Fab 50" -- 50 litigators under 45 who are expected to be "leading the field for years to come." Since this case will be around for a long time, a very long time, Sullivan was smart to select a lawyer predicted to have staying power.

So Charney's lawyers had better watch out. Charney's legal team, which includes Dan Alterman and Michael Kennedy, consists of experienced and well-regarded attorneys. But we don't know if we'd call them "fabulous" -- especially in light of their unfortunate fashion choices.

(If you're really into this case -- we'll admit we're getting a little bored, in the absence of new allegations about "bending over," fabricated evidence, and Nazis -- check out Jonas's summary of the parties' squabbles over discovery. It's available over here.)

Hey charney,

How's the whole "i'm going to change the world thing" going for you?

Changing the world feels a lot like sitting at home watching sallie jessie raphale doesn't it? Enjoy wasting your life for four years for nothing.

Let this be a lesson to anyone else dumb enough to sue for discrimination. It is among the most self destructive lawsuits you can file.

Had Charney just kept his mouth shut he could have lateralled to another top firm, and gotten on with his career. Instead he had to throw it all away because someone said the word poop in front of him.

Good work Charney! Keep dreaming about the $50,000,000 verdict!

How does Charney pass the time all day? I'd go out of my mind if I had to sit around all day.

I'm not H.R. Cohen. Just a spectator who understands the stupidity of suing for employment discrimination, especially with allegations as weak as Charney's.

Those lists are crap. Remember William DiSalvatore? He made one of those lists as well, as you noted.

What time is Sally Jessie Raphael on these days?

By the way, check out: http://www.sallyjr.com/home.htm. It's pretty funny. There's also a ridiculous link to Sara Tiffany Lucheme, a self-described "smart and spunky" financial correspondent , who writes columns such as, "Students - DON'T GET SCREWED."

I like Ms. Lucheme's blog. I can't believe she's only 4'9"! She must weigh 70 lbs.
She's in New Haven too. Yale?

Ok, I don't like that I'm the first person to take the low road, but I must say, what a set of choppers on Nelles. Her dentist must charge her double.

It doesn't matter where Sharon Nelles went to law school. The point is that she's now an S&C partner making millions of dollars a year. She outlasted many H-Y-S grads to reach that position.

When will people realize that it's not where you went to law school, but what you accomplish, that will determine your success in the legal profession?

hey 1:23, if Charney's claims are so weak, why doesn't S&C litigate rather than make pre=answer partial motions to dismiss? Seems to me like they are ducking.

5:43 - Did you teach Civics in middle school before you went to law school, or was it the other way around?

6:11, such motions are a fundamental part of litigation.
