Lawyer of the Weekend: Peter Barta
Do you know this man? His name is Peter Barta, and he's ATL's Lawyer of the Day Weekend. If you did what he allegedly did -- see here and here (plus more links collected below) -- you deserve to be honored on more than one day.

We're preparing a more detailed post on Peter Barta that we'll publish tomorrow. Right now we are collecting information about him from people who know him personally -- from high school (Stuyvesant High School in New York), law school (Georgetown Law), work (the Legal Aid Society), or any other context.
We've heard from a few folks, but we're hungry for more. If you have info to share, please email us (subject line: "Peter Barta"). Thanks.

Amazing how you see certain photos of accused perverts and child molesters and it looks SO obvious.

Not only is what this guy did creepy but how FUCKING STUPID did he have to be to plant a strange new clock radio in different women's offices. I mean, seriously, Georgetown law? I guess not everyone there is all that sharp.
Posted by: anon | July 8, 2007 05:52 PM
Makes you wonder what the people who aren't getting caught are up to.
Posted by: Anonymous | July 8, 2007 06:17 PM
HAhaha... he went to the DA's office for help. Word is that he was the slimiest crim defender at Legal Aid and was widely disliked

Re: WGWAG posts - you're being idiots and you're turning this board into www.xoxhth.com, which is a toilet posting site. Go there with your pathetic racism.
Posted by: TJ | July 8, 2007 11:25 PM
Anyone else find it incredible that he was able to get a boob shot? I mean, we all know that the women sometimes change in thier offices, but I figured the bras always stayed on.
Posted by: horatio | July 8, 2007 11:36 PM
the wgwag comments are especially creepy in the context of this posting - i'm not sure what could motivate someone to engage in such pointless and pathetic activity - i suppose it's the same kind of selfish urge that barta was unable to control (you idiots could learn a lesson from this guy - his life is over)
Posted by: anon | July 9, 2007 03:42 AM
so, you're telling me that women are getting nude in the office? That's equally strange. What's going on behind these closed doors?
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 06:21 AM
6:21 - Read the articles Lat linked to. They change clothes to go to court. Nothing unusual there. Maybe one of them had to change bras because of the color of her blouse so it couldn't be seen through her top?
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 07:01 AM
Yea, I hate it when a judge says, "honey, your bra is showing" or, better yet, "nice thong."
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 08:21 AM
Wait, women go to court?
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 08:25 AM
women lose weight.
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 09:48 AM
Women, lose weight.

Can someone explain the WGWAG thing... I see it from time to time in the comments of various postings here... and I don't get it. Was there a related posting awhile back or is it some kind of above the law running joke?
Posted by: Dont get it | July 9, 2007 11:29 AM
I think its just one dude with no life. Best to ignore it (lest you encourage more of it)...
Posted by: Anonymous | July 9, 2007 12:02 PM
It's an AutoAdmit / xoxohth running joke. The people who post it are all from over there.

"Creepy, anitsocial, nerd working for legal aid. Can't say I'm shocked."
Because creepy, antisocial nerds don't work at other places. Grow up. Let's see you dedicate a load of money and time trying to uphold the Constitutional rights of the accused. To diss an entire organization because of one rotten idiot shows a pathetic lack of respect for people who are dedicated and amazing attorneys.
As for the comment about there not being a rivalry between public defenders and prosecutors - they are defense attorneys. What else would there be? What benefit does a defense attorney get from not fighting the power of the state?

The Stuyvesant Debate Team Alumni Website still has him listed.
http://www.postconsumer.com/debate/
"Peter Barta '92 - Debated with Eric Yuen. Came back and coached for a while. "After NYU, I went to law school at Georgetown. Now, I work as a public defender with the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan. Essentially, I'm still debating. " (3/12/03) "
