A Last Minute Plea for Votes
Okay, we get it. We've made our peace with the fact that ATL is going to come in second behind the Volokh Conspiracy in the 2007 Weblog Awards. The voting ends tomorrow, and at the current time, we're behind by over 300 votes.
That's fine. The VC has been around longer, so it has the claim of seniority. And as a group blog by law professors, it has multiple bloggers who can get all their friends -- and their students -- to vote. Coming in second behind the Conspiracy would be a badge of honor.
But it would be nice if we could make the margin of defeat a little smaller. While you wait for more bonus news, please click here, and vote for ATL. Thanks!

Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:37 PM
I can't get through to the site...

Keep refreshing your browser, you'll get through eventually.
Posted by: anon | November 7, 2007 02:40 PM
yeah, what kind of a bs site is this that can't support a little traffic?
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:40 PM
ATL is getting crushed.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:41 PM
hey lat, you know, i don't think that it would be at all inappropriate to a permanent link for voting over the next day or so. I mean, people obviously enjoy visiting ATL and I don't mind casting a daily vote for what I think is an entertaining blog.
Posted by: atl | November 7, 2007 02:42 PM
Go Eugene go!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:43 PM
They provided code to imbed the poll on the site. Why would you not do that, Lat? IF YOU'RE NOT CHEATING, YOU'RE NOT TRYING
Posted by: Anon | November 7, 2007 02:45 PM
I don't get it. Why don't you just have Merck and Pearcie tell all of their friends to vote for ATL. Surely that would put you in the lead.
(ha ha ha)
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:52 PM
i'd never heard of the volokh conspiracy until you just mentioned it. now I want to go check it out.
*leaves ATL. Never returns.*
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:54 PM
Let’s get off our duffs and vote for ALT.
The volokh conspiracy while perhaps valid in a self-serious pedantic kina way (ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) is dull dull dull.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 02:59 PM
margin is down to 226 after my vote!
Posted by: anon | November 7, 2007 02:59 PM
I'm not voting for Lat until he raises salaries in NY to $190K

LAT NEEDS MORE VOTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Come on People! | November 7, 2007 03:05 PM
Down to 201 now, so let's keep going!
Posted by: Anon | November 7, 2007 03:06 PM
Lat this is knd of pathetic. Although if you're that desperate for votes, you should stand outside study hall and hand out little candy bars. That always seemed to work in middle school.
Posted by: iNonymous | November 7, 2007 03:06 PM
down to 199 after mine!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 03:07 PM
Sorry 2:59, some of us in the legal community actually give a damn about substantive issues beyond the size of our annual bonus and the NYT wedding page.
Posted by: Voted for Volokh and doing it again | November 7, 2007 03:07 PM
Keep voting people PLEASE!!!!!

Hair pie...I drink to that!!

3:09: ALT may be a flawed blawg, but its OUR flawed blawg.
Volokh makes Billy Merick look entertaining!
VOTE FOR ALT!
Note: Due o the spike on ALT response to this call, the voting site is swamped--but DO NOT GIVE UP.
We cannot get whipped by these Volokh people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 03:23 PM
I tried to vote but could not get through.
Will try later today.
In the interim, Mr. "Voted for Volokh and doing it again": So far, you have a plurality of a piss ant 300 votes.
ALT readers could crush Volokh--but (as with the Amreican Idol vote scandal) we CANNOT GET THROUGH. The server is OVERWHELMED with ALT POWER.
ALT READERS: Please keep trying throughout the day............

Volokh sucks the sweat off of dead men's balls.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 03:33 PM
Volokh Conspiracy is a very good blog, but it's not a LAW blog. Too much random discussion about real estate prices and guns and other non-legal crap. I mean jeez, why not call Althouse a "law blog"...
Go ATL!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 03:40 PM
I'm voting for the Bob Loblaw Law Blog
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 03:43 PM
VC's margin over ATL has shrunk to under 100 votes....
Could an ATL upset be in the cards???
Posted by: anon | November 7, 2007 03:43 PM
3:40,
1) The real estate stuff is all David Bernstein, who concededly sucks.
2) If your criterion for "law blog" involves discussion of substantive legal issues, VC is still more of a law blog than ATL is. ATL is, if anything, more of a blog about business and lifestyle issues of people who happen to practice law.
Posted by: 3:09 | November 7, 2007 03:44 PM
3:09 - David Bernstein isn't the only problem. The only people worth reading on the VC are Orin Kerr and Eugene Volokh.
I visit the VC probably about once a week. I visit ATL several times a day.
Posted by: 3:40 | November 7, 2007 03:46 PM
"Sorry 2:59, some of us in the legal community actually give a damn about substantive issues..."
I get enough "substantive issues" in my day job. I look to a blog for diversion - entertainment, gossip, frivolity.
If I wanted to hear about the latest cert petitions, I would just go read the latest cert petitions.

Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 04:25 PM
Gosh, it's a tough vote for me. The Russian Jew or the Filipino Gay?
In the end, I chose neither, because my employer doesn't allow us to install Flash on our machines.
Posted by: On the Fence | November 7, 2007 04:27 PM
Just hit the 24-hour mark-- another vote for Volokh!
4:18,
I am shocked by your anti-Semitic remark that David Bernstein could no doubt connect to both the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the real estate market in D.C. while simultaneously making some vague insinuation regarding the patriotism and/or intelligence of liberals.
Posted by: 3:09, which was actually 3:07 but has now been memorialized as 3:09. Stare decisis. | November 7, 2007 04:33 PM
Dear Gosh:
If you find it impossible (apparently) to vote for either site just because one is edited by a "jew" and the other by a 'Filipino Gay", you have no place in our society and should be shunned.
May I recommend some backwater town in the deep south that has left behind by civilization? (Go there now please.)

David Bernstein at Volokh will call you an anti-semite if you cross him.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 04:36 PM
Gay, straight, conservative, liberal, Jew, or gentile......Volokh still sucks the sweat off of dead man's balls.
Lat on the other hand periodically entertains us.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 04:41 PM
The contest is rigged. I tried to vote and it wrongly accused me of voting in the last 24 hours. I was at 4th and drucker at the time.
Posted by: nickdanger | November 7, 2007 04:42 PM
"you have no place in our society and should be shunned."
Too late. Actually, may statement about it being a "tough choice" is easily construed as showing equal favortism of both referenced demographics, hence the choice between them is difficult.
The comment about voting for neither is obviously a solicitation for a BigLaw Perk Watch article on what firms give associates "Administrator" access to associates for their laptops, so as to install Flash and viruses.
Posted by: On the Fence | November 7, 2007 04:46 PM
Any minute now I am going to be eligible to vote again. If the W&C memo is posted before I am eligible, I will vote for ATL. If not, I will throw away my vote on someone else (but not Volokh). Probably WSJ.
Get your sh** together, ATL.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 04:47 PM
Why should Lat care who you vote for, as long as it's not Volokh? None of the others are even close.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 04:49 PM
ATL is in the lead, bitches.
Posted by: Volokh Goes Down | November 7, 2007 05:06 PM
ATL is winning!!!
Bitches
Posted by: winning | November 7, 2007 05:10 PM
I tried to vote for ATL but the stupid site isn't working.
It's kind of ironic that a site with a poll for best legal weblog can't handle its own traffic generated by the poll. Idiots.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 05:15 PM
"The comment about voting for neither is obviously a solicitation for a BigLaw Perk Watch article on what firms give associates "Administrator" access to associates for their laptops, so as to install Flash and viruses."
No, you referenced a "Jew" vs. a "Filipino Gay".
NEWS FLASH: The Confederacy lost the Civil War.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 05:16 PM
It's not over yet. Volokh got a huge bump last night, which means those people can't vote again for another couple of hours.
Bitches.
Posted by: 3:09 | November 7, 2007 05:19 PM
Keep trying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 05:21 PM
"NEWS FLASH: The Confederacy lost the Civil War."
blah blah blah. And the summer associate hit the girl in the bar with partners watching! ZOMG! Aren't you listening???
Exhibit A for a "mark as spam" filter. ...and I said "Russian Jew."
Posted by: On the Fence | November 7, 2007 05:32 PM
ATL IS NOW UP BY 88 VOTES.
BUT YOU MUST VOTE ANYWAY.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 05:44 PM
Indicating a hard choice between a "Russian Jew" and "Filipino Gay" indicates: Anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia.
This is not acceptable behavior.
But obviously, you don't get it.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 06:04 PM
This site sucks more than it should. (Thanks Merck!) And I think volokh generally has more interesting posts. But D.B. is horrible and so are a few of the other posters on that site. Quite frankly, if it weren't for Kerr, I suspect that site's traffic would plummet. Anyway, given all of that, I'll vote for ATL. (Plus, Eugene seems like an ass and I don't want him to have the satisfaction of winning.)
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 06:13 PM
David Bernstein at Volokh eats children (or so I have been told).
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 06:14 PM
Oren Kerr should have kept his own blog going. It was svelte and beautiful. Smart and sexy....
However, like many otherwise fine and brillient people, he decided to consort with lessers (such as David Berstein and, the more tolerable but still annoying, Adler Non-Volokh (puke)) to reach a wider audience.

[Eugene Volokh, November 7, 2007 at 7:08pm] Trackbacks
"A Last Minute Plea for Votes," read the title of a post from our friendly rival at Above the Law, and the plea has led us to fall behind by (at current count) 137 votes. So we plead right back: Please vote for your favorite law blog -- whatever that might happen to be -- at this page; the rules allow you to vote once every 24 hours.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 07:39 PM
In addition, this Volokh commenter says:
The gap closed by 22 votes since your last plea. The tally is now 3358-3243 in favor of Above the Law.
Those of you who have not yet voted for ATL need to vote, and those who have need to vote again in 24 hours.
NOTE: The voting closes tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. EST, 2:00 P.M. Left Coast time….
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 07:50 PM
The gap has narrowed to 104. Unfortunately, though, if Volokh doesn't catch up in the next 5 minutes, it may be in trouble, since all the ATL voters who voted today can vote again tomorrow, but anyone who votes for Volokh tonight will be unable to vote again.
Posted by: 3:09 | November 7, 2007 07:56 PM
It seems to me that Volokh's law students may tend to vote at night.
Which means for ATL to win, we all have to vote again in 24 hours.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 08:05 PM
So, does LAT owes us all a beer if ATL wins?
Posted by: Anonymous | November 7, 2007 10:16 PM
A case of beer.

Apparently Leittter is bittter he didn't get nominated . . . judging from disparaging remarks above about VC's Adler and Bernstein, could Brian be stalking these very threads?
Hi Brian!
