Fred Thompson Senator Fred Dalton Thompson Fred T Thompson Above the Law blog.jpgFormer Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) -- who has played a lawyer on television, as well as in real life -- is dropping out of the presidential race.

this was the most absurd candidacy in a long time. he's the new reagan! oh, actually, he's totally uninterested in campaigning or being president.

Fred Thompson was running for President?

Strange . . . I thought he dropped out the same day he threw his hat in the ring.

Does anybody know what happens to Thompson's delegates now that he is out?

I cannot believe no one else has noted this, nor can I believe that Lat posted this way in the first place. Dude, it's totally "One Less Lawyer"--"One Fewer Lawyer" is just so, so wrong!

It's been self-evident from the very beginning that Fred Thompson was in the race for no other reason than because he had nothing better to do.

Thankfully this pathetic charade has finally come to a close.

More importantly, does anybody know what happens to Jack McCoy now?

3:13, Lat must have taken a fewer number of grammar classes than you.

I'm voting for Jerry Orbach's ghost.

Wow- I thought that whole thing was a Law & Order marketing effort..

Lat, it would be cool if you could cue up the Law & Order scene change music to play when someone clicks on this post.

3:13, you're wrong. There are (thankfully) countably many lawyers, and lawyers are not partitive, so "fewer" is correct.

Those of you with grammar skills, I am very impressed!

That is a shame. He ran a terrible "campaign," if you can call it that. That said, he was a real federalist and was someone who actually knew what he was talking about when it came to legal issues. It's too bad that he is out and Huckabee is still in.

There is no downside to this for Fred because he can respond with “I get to go home with Jeri Thompson every night” after pretty much anything you want to say about him.

3:13 is wrong, and 3:46 (and Lat) are right. It should be "fewer," not "less."

See the chapter in Strunk and White, "Misused Words and Expressions."
