Update: Massachusetts Lawyers Getting Off

Carl McGee Carl Stanley McGee Governor Deval Patrick Above the Law blog.jpgFor the record, here's some follow-up on two Bay State lawyers previously discussed in these pages, who have been cleared of the charges against them. At least to some extent.

First, remember Carl Stanley McGee (right), who was arrested after being accused of going down on a 15-year-old boy? Earlier this week, Florida prosecutors decided to drop the case.

Apparently the teen had trouble identifying McGee. But maybe he also learned that it's bad form to complain about getting a BJ. Unless teeth are involved.

Second, remember the handsome Gary Zerola (below right), named a "Most Eligible Bachelor" by People magazine, and accused of rape and attempted rape by three different women? One of the cases against him went to trial, and he was acquitted (back in January; we missed the news when it came out).

Gary Zerola 2 Most Eligible Bachelor rape Above the Law blog.jpgA second trial is currently underway. In that case, as reported in today's Boston Herald, Zerola's defense team argues that the victim wanted to shakedown their client for $150,000.

The third incident, which is the one that we wrote about, has not yet gone to trial.

Who cares whether they're guilty or not!

Zach Scruggs joined his father in pleading guilty today in MS also.

That seems to be the theme here and elsewhere 4:27. Carl Stanley did nothing wrong, but he'll still be a child molester to many.

I guess you are implying that everyone is out to get the whites? They should call this the Above the FOXnews blog.

If Penn is Ivy League, how come I've never once heard of Joe Paterno winning the Ivy title?

"The teen had difficulty identifying McGee as his attacker, Florida prosecutor Francine Donnorummo wrote this week. There was also no video surveillance or forensic evidence supporting his claims, according to documents."
How could you not identify this guy?

Is it just me or do both of those scumbags look like Jamie Kennedy?

If a witness who got close enough in a confined steam room to (allegedly) engage in sex with a guy as distinctive looking as McGee and then failed to identity him as the attacker the charge has to be bogus.

"That seems to be the theme here and elsewhere 4:27. Carl Stanley did nothing wrong, but he'll still be a child molester to many."

Actually, dropping the case hardly means Carl Stanley did nothing wrong. It only means they didn't think they had enough evidence to convict him. Which *may* very well mean that the sicko got off. It could also mean, as you say, he did nothing, but it's far from affirmative proof of innocence.

5:38 confirming 4:40. Guilty until proven innocent.

5:48, can you read? All I said was nothing's been proven. It MAY be that he did it, or it MAY be that he didn't. Anyway, the guy hasn't been found guilty of anything. So what's "guilty until proven innocent" about any of this? Because I had the audacity to suggest that a prosecutor making the decision, for whatever reason, to drop charges, doesn't necessarily serve as absolute proof of innocence? If a tree may have fallen in the forest but the prosecutor doesn't believe it did, I guess it definitely and conclusively didn't happen, then, and anyone who suggests otherwise is unAmerican.

What you know and what you can prove are two different things. For example, I KNOW that UPENN State Law in Philly is not an Ivy League school; I just can't prove it.

9:49 and 4:57, you must be staff attorneys in my document dungeon if you're confusing UPenn with Penn State. Please get back to work or I will take away the air conditioning and Easter.

The DA in the Zerola case sounds strangely conciliatory. Don't know if that's his usual M.O., but seems odd to me that a DA would be so comfortable with losing the case.

THIS IS DISGRACEFUL, BUT NOT SURPRISING. AT LEASE THIS LAWYER WAS ARRESTED, AND THEN THE CHARGES WERE DROPPED. SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE MAY HAVE GOTTEN PAID OFF. NOT LIKE THE NEW YORK CITY CASE AGAINST AN ATTORNEY BY THE NAME OF "ALLEN ISAAC". THEY NEVER ARRESTED THIS LAWYER AFTER SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE AND AUDIO TAPES OF HIS ADMISSIONS TO "SEXUAL ASSAULTS". YOUTUBE "HEADLINE NEWS POLITICS".

11 + Women all claim they were raped by Gary Zerola:

4 victims of Gary Zerola testified under oath about what happened to them. I have heard of at least 3 other victims that came forward and told police similar stories. Below are just 3 more blogs about 4 other victims of Gary Zerola. So far that is 11 women who all claim they were victims of Gary Zerola. There are many many more blogs posted by other victims of Gary Zerola. Think about it. He is clearly a serial rapist and needs to be put away.

"4 years ago Gary Z managed to gain the trust of my family through business ties he has with my father and then drugged and raped my sister as soon as he had a minute alone with her. Luckily he never got his hands on me. This loser behind being put away is the best news I've ever heard! I can only hope that his fellow inmates teach him what it feels like to be manhandled."

Boston Herald

"a similar situation happened to me with gary, but i never reported it, and i was also 18 years old."
-a girl
Boston Herald

"Gary Zerola raped two friends of mine about 9 years ago. The last thing they remember was Gary buying them drinks at West St. Bar. They woke up naked next to Gary in the morning. Gary made sure he put enough drugs in their drinks so they wouldn't remember how they got there. They do know that they were raped. Neither of them had ever blacked out before in their lives. Read the blogs on Gary Zerola.... other's have similar stories"
