MPRE Results Are Out: Open Thread

MPRE Model Professional Responsibility Exam Above the Law blog.jpgOpen threads about the MPRE are a fine tradition here at ATL. See here and here.

Even if the test isn't particularly difficult or interesting, people love to talk about it. We've already received a slew of "MPRE results are out!" emails, and the news has also surfaced in the comments to other posts.

So to everyone who passed the MPRE, congratulations. To everyone who didn't pass the MPRE, you can bemoan your fate, in the comments.

What the hell is the MPRE?
I didn't need to take it because I went to law school in Grenada. In fact, I didn't have to take the LSATs to get in to my law school either.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the higher your score on the MPRE, the more professionally responsible you will be in your legal career.

Still waiting for the "I studied during the drive to the test and got a 150" comment. Oh, it's coming.

I studied for 2 days, 6-7 hours a day and did fine (100). I don't regret it and anyone who tells you it is super easy is just wrong. It's not the hardest test in the world, but it isn't quite the easiest either.

124 and I was shot in the chest while taking the exam. Is that a good score?

avatar
Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, April 7, 2008 5:10 PM

Um, 5:06, I DID study only during the drive to the test. I never said I had a 150. I don't remember what my score was, only that I passed.

avatar

Come on, the comments to the MPRE threads are always the same, so why wasting our time with this?

avatar
Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, April 7, 2008 5:12 PM

Anyone who got more than an 85 (I believe that is the highest score required for any state) studied too much. As with the bar exam, the goal of the MPRE is to pass with the lowest score possible.

avatar
Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, April 7, 2008 5:13 PM

120. That seems okay, but I'm considering contacting the MPRE people. I'm sure I did better than that, and I'd like my score to reflect that. Does anyone know how hard it is to convince these people to bump up a score?

We had a saying when I was in law school. "Studying for the MPRE? Here's all you need to know: Narc on your friends, and be prepared to testify." That's all she wrote.

Time waster:

I got a 131, too, but a couple of years ago! I remember because I was shocked. I studied for a couple of hours the night before while watching TV and during the test I was sure I was missing every last one of them.

The MPRE feels like it's hard, but the math somehow works out so that you pass it.

I wish the LSAT were that easy. I got a 131 on that, too.

do you need to have taken a professional responsibility class or anything to be prepared for the MPRE, or is a barbri-type course plus studying from a barbri-type book for like a week sufficient prep?

also, does the score matter or is it p/f like the bar?

avatar
Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, April 7, 2008 5:26 PM

@ 5:23(2) -

You need to look at your respective state bar requirements. MPRE is not pass/fail and the score does matter, especially if you plan to be licensed in more than one state.

The best way to study is to hit yourself in the head with a hammer as hard as possible. That is the only way to understand the convoluted bs questions on that test. Enjoy!

Using the NY passing score of 85 than you cant say the test has a 98% pass rate. 15% fail it. The passing score would have to be 52 for the test to have a 2% failure rate.

117....I was getting 36-38 (out of 60, not 50) on the barbri prep tests.

All I did was go to the class, took 4 prep tests, review answers for questions I missed and then read the outline for about an hour the day of the test.

I was freaking out until I got into the exam room (Jarvits center, NYC), recognized about 4 people out of 800 and realized "Hey...you go to NYU and are taking this with a bunch of TTT turds...no worries)."

All those posts about nobody failing are full of it. I am at a v15 firm and me and lots of people I know had to do it twice, either because they didn't study, skipped the class or some other reason. Just because people don't walk around talking about taking the test twice doesn't mean it doesn't happen all the time. Anyway, it's all a bit pointless - can anyone above 1st year even remember their score? Has it ever come up in a conversation / interview? The answer to both is no.

Oh, and I passed the bar first time with a great score.

avatar
Posted by Anon | Permalink Monday, April 7, 2008 6:02 PM

when I took the test (not NY), I finished early (like most takers). However, I was nice enough to give somebody a ride, and they finished before me, so the last 15-20 minutes of my exam involved somebody peaking in our test room and pointing to her watch.

I passed the February 2008 NY Bar exam.
I failed the March 2008 MPRE, with the lowest possible score (50).

There are things in this world that I really don't get. I studied two weeks for the Bar exam. I studied 4 full days the MPRE.

Apart from a technical problem with my answer sheet I don't see how I could get only 50. Especially given that I score a 187 on the MBE.
