ATL Holiday Card Contest: The Finalists!

Which of these law firm holiday cards is the best of 2015? Cast your vote!

5. Manatt, Phelps & Phillips: Manatt, which has been in the finals on three prior occasions, returns with this amusing offering. “Continuing Manatt’s tradition of clever holiday cards, we updated the classic carol ‘Deck the Halls’ and appeased cultural sensitivities by replacing outdated language with more politically appropriate phrasing. The sing-a-long aspect of the card, where readers can follow a bouncing ball above the lyrics, adds an engaging component to a season’s greeting.”

You can check out the chuckle-worthy card — replete with impressive singing! — here.

6. Otten Johnson: Will its third time in the finals be the charm for this Denver-based, real-estate-focused firm? “We continue our homage to the City of Denver (after last year’s ‘building’ dominoes card) in honor of our 30 year history as one of the most respected land use and real estate firms in the Rocky Mountain region. This year, we decided to up the ‘cool’ factor – having touched on clever and funny in 2013 and 2014. Our 2015 video card is a compelling winner because it is ‘different’ – again. This time we pushed the envelope using a drone to fly over our home town and capture some of the new buildings next to old landmarks.”

The beautiful views are even more impressive in light of the fact that they were taken with a drone. View the card here.

7. Proctor Heyman & Enerio: I feel like the partners at Proctor Heyman & Enerio, a frequent finalist and past winner (2010), spend the whole year thinking up and debating their holiday card concept. The card speaks for itself, but name partner Patricia Enerio shared a little context anyway: “We continue our tradition of using iconic musical themes to spread some holiday cheer and hopefully elicit a few chuckles. This year’s entry also definitively shows why we are lawyers and not dancers.”

It might be more of a Halloween card than a Christmas card, but it’s still one of the most entertaining in the contest, making it one of my personal favorites. Check it out here.

8. Wolf Greenfield: The holiday card contest tends to be dominated by repeat players, so congrats to IP firm Wolf Greenfield for making its debut this year. “In past years, we’ve prided ourselves on sending really creative and unique holiday ‘cards’: recipes, magnets, a deck of cards, etc. This year is the first time we’ve sent an e-card, so we wanted it to follow in the vein of the cards we’ve sent in the past while being something people could share online. We hit on the idea of building a Rube Goldberg machine, which would highlight our technology expertise—we’re an intellectual property firm, and the vast majority of our attorneys and technology specialists have PhDs in science and engineering fields—and be something people wanted to watch over and over again.”

You can check out the card — I can see why folks would watch it over and over again, it has a certain hypnotic quality — over here. (And you can go “behind the scenes” and learn about how the card was made — by Rube Goldberg savant Zach Umperovitch, who has been building these machines since he was three — over here.)

Eight excellent finalists, but only one can win. Who should prevail? That’s up to you, dear readers.

Time to vote. We’ll keep the polls open through SUNDAY, JANUARY 3, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern time). This gives you ample time to campaign for your pick over the holidays (but please don’t cheat; you are officers of the court, after all). Good luck, and happy holidays!
