6,

That's why I love working at Thompson Hine. At my firm, you can get a hefty pay cut AND watch your friends get laid off.

Partners utilizing "subjective factors" and "progress (no definition)" ---> arbitrary decisions, nepotism, and unequal treatment of similarly situated associates based on who your partner is.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of lockstep, but if the criteria aren't reasonably objective, laid out clearly for associates, and capable of independent confirmation, then it is a screw job giving partners more power to abuse.

Now we're not even supposed to be judged by objective criteria?

A move like this is complete bullshit. Therefore, I anticipate these compensation "criteria" will be adopted at TTThompson Hine immediately.

(note to the partners - Fuck you! (like I said, not feeling clever today. But still, fuck you!))

This is how partners conduct themselves.

Never forget, at will employment is an adversarial relationship.

They're ready to throw you out the door as soon as that is what benefits their PPP.

Are you willing to (within ethical bounds) seduce away their clients as soon as that is what is best for your career? If you are willing, are you ready?

Think about it. If you're like me, you're doing all/most of the work for the client anyway. Don't let the firm get rid of you. Help your client to see the benefits of getting rid of your partner.

(note to the partners - Oh, it is still so totally on between us. Catch me if you can (which you can't, because you're incompetent morons), and watch me walk with a book of your business if you ever do or watch that happen as soon as I determine it to be my better move. Come get some!)

How silly of me to have forgotten... the firm/partners of which I speak (though I feel my advice applicable to all) is none other than that TTT piece of shit Thompson Hine.

You hear that, Google results? THOMPSON HINE is a shit law firm.

If you are an associate tired of eating shit while the "rainmakers" dodge the pain, then turn yourself into a Raintaker.

Ok, puns are lame. Still, if you're offered a severance package, consider taking some clients!

Clients want to cut costs, and the partner is the best place to do that. That's how senior associates become rainmakers. Out with the old in with the new.

Junior associates, well, that's more difficult. Most BigLaw clients are/should be too large for you to reel in yourselves.

Thompson Hine - taking the fun out of fungible.

24,

Grand-theft schtick (aka "Swaggerjacking") is a felony level douchebag offense.

Anyone attempting it will be crushed under the weight of their own doucheyness, without me needing to so much as lift a finger.

Thanks for the appreciation - I may not be around each and every week, but it's important for someone to give partners the ole' stinkhand from time to time and I'm on the case! (Mallrats = hilarious)

Another instance of a partner spouting platitudes, and sticking associates with the brunt of the pain, while mostly maneuvering to improve their BS ranking to help PPP.

I call this more of the same, not honesty.

My shit firm - Thompson Hine - doles out the shit in mass quantities, but the shit is pretty much the same everywhere.

I've had a very busy run keep me from posting as much as I'd like, but the quality of the projects we're getting in the door is still complete gutter tripe.

The real road to cost savings for clients? Get rid of the partner and start servicing the clients yourself. Why haven't I done it yet myself? Well, I'm still having some fun being a rat on the Titanic, but stay tuned...

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Covington & Burling Owns the Summer" Friday, July 17, 2009 1:27 PM

Must be nice to be at Covington.

Summer associates at Thompson Hine? Well, let me put it this way - our young associates view the law firm as a dog with too many puppies and not enough nipples. Best of luck to you.

Note to the partners - You know the summers are well aware that they're getting shit projects and make-work. I mean, you have to know that. So, all your efforts to smile in their faces and tell them all is well just makes you look like shit spewing asshats. That's what you are, so I'm guessing you probably don't mind much.

Asshats.

Publicizing the firms that treat associates like shit HELPS, rather than hurting.

Are those people really suggesting we'd be better off if firms were allowed to go forward with their scummy stealth layoffs without anyone finding out about it?

Publicizing it means that firms that do shitty things, like Weil and, to a MUCH larger extent, shitholes like Thompson Hine, get crap reputations in the marketplace.

In the meantime, places like Covington gain a competitive advantage going after TLT.

Seriously, what is the rationale that it helps us to let firms fuck us in anonymous silence? That whole line of attack sounds like incompetent partner trolling to me.

Keep up the good work outing the shitholes and rats for what they are, ATL!

And, up yours Thompson Hine!

Peace,

RA

Based on what I know of the male partners at Thompson Hine, it is pretty easy to confuse their cocks with nipples.

I can understand your confusion.

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Weil Gotshal Defers Current Summer Associates to 2011 or 2012" Friday, July 17, 2009 1:55 PM

28 and fun with circular logic:

Shitty firms do shitty things because publicizing it gives them an excuse. Don't publicize it because then they won't do it. Don't worry about them doing it in anonymous silence because shitty firms doing shitty things will always get [sic] "outted", which we should be worried about because that outing will allow other firms to do it, which we shouldn't do because then firms won't do it..... [ad infinitum]

Take $5 and buy a clue - firms do layoffs because they are bleeding cash. Not because some blog told them their neighbor already did it. Plain and simple.

Your argument shows you to either be (i) incredibly naive as to why layoffs happen; or (ii) a partner troll trying to disincentivize publicizing this kind of bullshit - and the publicity creates a real disincentive. THAT is why firms do releases to ATL and worry about what is said here. Because they know that the negative publicity hurts them.

Get back on your knees for some more partner dick-sandwich, schill.

The rest of us will be calling out the motherfuckers, like Thompson Hine, for what they are. You enjoy the cream sauce on that sandwich, though.

54,

How can I say no to a fine offer like that! Count me in. Times like these, associates need each other's support.

This RA schtick is like getting to be the Kaiser Soze of pissed off associates...Wherever associates are discussing ways to snake away clients (and cutting out the bloated, overpriced partners is how real cost savings happen for clients), I am there.

Of course, I always have to give proper respect in my posts to the motherfuckers that do everything in their power to screw me (and my fellow associates and, the scumbags, even our staff) over, none other than Thompson Hine. It's good to direct your bile at those that cause it to rise. It helps my schtick that Thompson Hine is such a piece of shit firm that I have TONS of material to work with.

The best thing that happens to me in real life on an occasional basis? Getting to overhear or otherwise get a glimpse at those old, slow bastards inability to figure out who it is that is fucking them over from the inside. Now that I've gone rogue, I must admit, I rather like it.

Whenever I see their impotent frustration, it makes my bathing suit places all tingly for the rest of the day.

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Jones Day Slams Its Competitors" Tuesday, August 4, 2009 11:46 AM

Jones Day actually realizes that a law firm is built on the backs (and not the corpses) of its associates.

There isn't an associate at my slave driving, associate firing shit-hole, THOMPSON HINE, that wouldn't leap on an offer from Jones Day.

Thompson Hine is a crap firm full of bloated partners that, near as I can figure, don't give out quality work assignment because they don't have any.

Thompson Hine partners don't teach cutting edge practice techniques, because they don't know them.

And Thompson Hine doesn't take care of its associates (or staff!) because the firm is on poor financial footing and can't afford to.

(note to the partners - Y havnt ewe fownd mi yet? R U relly so stoopid and inkompitint? Thnx for the peychex!)

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Jones Day Slams Its Competitors" Tuesday, August 4, 2009 11:56 AM

Anyone who is more concerned over a firm's PPP instead of how well it treats, trains and compensates its associates is a moron (or a shit-sucking trolling partner).

If that's you, then come work for Thompson Hine. You'll fit right in.

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Jones Day Slams Its Competitors" Tuesday, August 4, 2009 4:20 PM

You know what's interesting?

Whenever there is an ATL post about Jones Day, there is always a strong contingent of JD people in the comments applauding/defending their firm.

When I bash the hell out the shit hole I work at, Thompson Hine, the only thing TH people do when they comment is laugh/agree/say they want to buy me a beer.

Why? Because Thompson Hine is a very poorly managed firm, with dim and unpleasant partners with raging senses of entitlement, and all of the associates there hate it.

I'm just saying, good firms have defenders.

Thompson Hine? *crickets*

Thompson Hine = "piece of fucking shit hell hole full of incompetent dim-witted asshole partners constantly trying to stare at the female associates cleavage and asses"

Well, I guess I'm going to lose points for brevity, but high marks for accuracy!

Combine 57 and 52, and you get

HoSon Hiney

As in - Now that I work at Thompson Hine, I'm being treated like nothing but a piece of HoSon Hiney, and boy I sure am sore!

The partners are toying with us. That's what it comes down to. And many of them are enjoying it.

I can't tell you how often I've seen partners at Thompson Hine dangle offers of projects to associates, keep them in suspense for a few days, and then not give out the work (if they even had any work to give out in the first place).

And we've got plenty of partners "thinking out loud" about sending work to other offices, etc. any time they are mildly annoyed about anything.

Thompson Hine is such a shit hole.

I really feel bad for our SAs. Most of us are doing everything we can (and still struggling) to keep enough work for ourselves. They didn't get any meaningful projects this summer.

Thompson Hine - our partners' clients have mostly quit bringing the firm work, because our partners are mediocre yet overpriced.

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Yale Law Women Anoint Top Ten Family-Friendly Firms" Thursday, August 20, 2009 5:27 PM

Thompson Hine - female attorneys flee the firm in droves. Taking maternity leave is tantamount to putting a bullseye on your back.

If you go to work showing any leg or cleavage, prepare to be stared at CONSTANTLY

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Pls Hndle Thx: Poker Face" Friday, August 21, 2009 11:27 AM

In my experience, partners play poker about the same way as they fuck.

Lots of big talk beforehand, then a hilarious display of incompetence, followed by prolonged sulking and passive-aggressiveness.

Easy money.

At least, that's how it goes down at Thompson Hine.

Posted by Rogue Associate in "Pls Hndle Thx: Poker Face" Friday, August 21, 2009 4:24 PM

70 - whose to say I haven't done both? Or, perhaps I've just heard the hilarious water cooler stories... hard to say (though, when it comes to partners in the bedroom, I suppose "hard" wouldn't really be the word to use...)
